A-Ma Festival

The five-day A-Ma Festival pays homage to the city’s most venerated Chinese deity, the A-Ma Goddess – the Goddess of Seafarers – through centuries-old thanksgiving rituals and performances, originally performed on fishing vessels. Festivities start with traditional rituals held at A-Ma Temple, followed by the festival's opening ceremony, which includes a lion dance performance, and later by a Cantonese Opera show. As part of the festival, several Cantonese Opera performances are being held during the period from May 7th to 10th at a temporary bamboo auditorium set up at Barra Square in front of A-Ma Temple.
