Ushering Chinese New Year

The Lunar New Year is the most important and colourful festival in the Chinese calendar. In February, there are a huge number of events organised by the Macao Government Tourism Office to mark the occasion. Aside from street parades featuring a giant dragon and lion dances, there is also a Parade for Celebration of the Year of the Dog. After that parade, there are lots of opportunities for the public to take photographs of the floats that were used, when they go on exhibition: first at the Macao Science Center and later at Tap Seac Square.



Programme:

Dragon and lion dance performance, appearances of God of Fortune, Gods of Happiness, Prosperity and Longevity, 12 Chinese Zodiac Mascots, Entourage Boy and Girl, Five Macao Tourism Ambassadors, distribution of Lai Si and souvenirs
Time: Feb 16th: 9:50am to 10:10am
Venue: Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal (Arrival Hall)


Distribution of Lai Si and souvenirs by the God of Fortune
Time: Feb 16th: 10:30am to 10:50am – Ruins of St. Paul’s; 12:00pm to 12:30pm – in front of Ritz Building, Senado Square


Eye-dotting ceremony of Gigantic Dragon and Lion, Dragon and Lion dance performance, and firecrackers

Time: Feb 16th: 11:00am to 11:20am

Route: Senado Square → Calçada do Tronco Velho → St. Augustine’s Square → Rua Central → Travessa da Paiva → Government Headquarters → Travessa do Padre Narciso → St. Lawrence’s Church → Bairro de Lilau → Rua da Barra → A-Ma Temple → Pousada S. Tiago → Av. Panorâmica do Lago Sai Van → Rotunda da Baía da Praia → Sai Van Lake Square


Chinese New Year Animation
Includes appearances of: the 12 Chinese Zodiac Mascots; the Gods of Happiness, Prosperity and Longevity; the Entourage Boy and Girl; and the five Macao Tourism Ambassadors. It also features dragon and lion dances, and distribution of Lai Si by the God of Fortune.

Time: Feb 24th: 8:00pm to 9:30pm – Route: Rua Norte do Patane → Av. do Conselheiro Borja → Estrada do Arco → Estrada da Areia Preta → Av. de Venceslau de Morais → Rua Quatro do Bairro da Areia Preta → Av. da Longevidade → Rua do Mercado de Iao Hon → Iao Hon Market Garden


Parade Float Exhibition
Time: Feb 18th 10:00pm to Feb 24th 5:00pm – Venue: Macao Science Center
Time: Feb 24th 10:00pm to Mar 4th 6:00pm – Venue: Tap Seac Square


Fireworks Display

Time: Feb 18th: 9:45pm
Venue: Seafront of Macau Tower


Cultural Performance

Venue: Iao Hon Market Garden
