Feast of the God Tou Tei

In ancient myth, Tou Tei - literally the ‘Earth God’ - governs the land and is widely worshipped in Macau. In addition to small Tou Tei statues placed in front of shops and homes, the territory has several Tou Tei temples, the most famous of which is Fok Tak Chi in Horta da Mitra. On the Feast of Tou Tei, believers worship Tou Tei at home and even follow the dancing lion to Tou Tei temples in order to pray for a bumper harvest. A whole roasted pig is traditionally prepared for all to enjoy with an evening of Cantonese Opera.
