  • Summer is set to end with a bang as the 29th Macao International Fireworks Display Contest (Sept 1st, 8th, 21st, 25th and Oct 1st) turns the night sky aglow, with fireworks accompanied by laser light projections and music. There is music elsewhere in town: the Macao Orchestra 2018-19 Concert Season begins with opening concert Sergei Rachmaninoff by Barry Douglas (Sept 1st), the 32nd Macao International Music Festival (Sept 28th – Oct 28th) makes its debut, while the Macau Band Fair 2018 ends with a Trombone Recital (Sept 4th) by Italian soloist Peter Steiner.
In September the city also welcomes Beyond the Scenery: Exhibition Commemorating the 300th Anniversary of the Passing of Wu Li (Sept 8th – Nov 11th), focusing on the work of Chinese landscape painter Wu Li, who became one of the first Chinese to be ordained as a Jesuit priest, after training in Macao. The Terrific 12 basketball tournament (Sept 18th-23rd) brings to Macao 12 of Asia's top teams for what is dubbed as "Asia League's premier preseason tournament". At the end of September, Macao hosts the Macao 2018 – 35th Asian International Stamp Exhibition (Sept 21st-24th).
World Tourism Day (Sept 27th) brings with it a lively Tray Race. Participants – flying the respective flags of some of the city's top hotels and restaurants – each try to carry safely a bottle on a tray while scrambling from the Ruins of St. Paul's all the way to Senado Square.
